Part of my process of studying and practicing what I learn using the 8-Circuit model involves an occasional updating of what the grid means to me in as concise and meaningful way as I know how at the time. Here is the link to my most recent update (April 7, 2007):

Nice! I like the concept of shocks and anchors.

Thanks. I have just now added new links to alternative interpretations of Leary's grid and a link to its mysterious origins. Apparently Leary did not originate the 8-Circuit Brain but rather, popularized it.

Great material, but I'm puzzled that you write that Leary claimed to have originated the 8-circuit model, when (as you describe yourself), in WDWW?, Flashbacks, and elsewhere, he describes having received it from eastern esoteric sources.

I don't recall writing that Leary claimed to have originated it (if I did, it was before I discovered its true origins) but that many people believe Leary originated the 8-Circuit Brain model as he made it so popular.

Ah yes, I just followed links on your site "The Origins of the 8-Circuit Model" and didn't realize I'd ended up at: deoxy.org/8origins.htm

"While he lived, Leary claimed, and received, credit for an ingenious "8 circuit/24 stage" model of evolution. To tell the truth, he did not originate the theory..."

Sorry for misattributing this to you...

Leary actually gives at least two versions of the story, I believe - and someone correct me if I have my facts muddled. In WDWW?, he claims to have received it from a certain "Professor Adams". However, in Flashbacks, he receives it in India from a Guru (someone help me here, I don't have my copy with me - was it Lama Govinda?). In fact, the 8 circuit model in it's first form (as published in The Politics of Ecstasy and High Priest) had only 7 circuits, and appeared to be based on the 7 chakras of yoga. I always assumed that the stories in WDWW? and Flashbacks were tongue-in-cheek tales meant to give the nod to ancient wisdom while developing an appropriate aura of hagiographic mystique.

              Apology accepted; thanks.

Here's some cheap gossip for you.

About nine months ago I was contacted here at tribe.net by someone going by the name of "Dr. Lightning," or something like that, claiming to either be this "Professor Adams" or someone from the same esoteric school; it was hard to tell due to the stench of his arrogance (he seemed quite full of himself).

This person made very clear to me his hatred and contempt for Leary, especially the way he perceived Leary to bastardize his pristine and ancient wisdom system. I felt nothingy for his grievances and his constantly naggiing e-mails and so , I eventually told him to fauk off and die (whereupon he said he'd write a bad review of my book and post it on amazon.com). No higher consciousness lost there, hehe.
